International Banjo Champion Kyle Tuttle is one of the most exciting players and writers in the acoustic music world today. After years of working as a sideman, he has stepped into the spotlight with the release of a new banjo record ‘Bobcat’. Having studied with Tony Trischka, Bela Fleck, and Bill Keith, and played in many Bluegrass bands, he has a solid grasp on the techniques that create driving banjo music. Also having spent the formative years playing in Old Time and Punk Rock bands, Kyle’s sound is comprehensive and distinct. His unique brand of banjo playing has turned the heads of several great artists, allowing him to perform with Peter Rowan, Jeff Austin, Big & Rich, Hayseed Dixie, Jim Lauderdale, and the list goes on.

In 2017 Kyle became the National Bluegrass Banjo Champion at the Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield, KS. He also holds the titles, Australian National Banjo Champion 2015, 2nd place MerleFest 2012, 2nd Place Winfield 2012, 2015, and 3rd place Winfield 2013 . Growing up around Folk and Bluegrass, he has a strong appreciation for traditional American music. Kyle worked for three years in a band called “Here’s to the Long Haul” that was heavily involved with the grass-roots movement against Mountaintop Removal Coal Mining in the Southeastern States. Between protests, rallies, community meetings, and the occasional bar gig, the band was basically on full time tour for three years. In 2009 he left HTTLH to study music theory and composition at Berklee College of Music in Boston. While studying there he made strong connections with Tony Trischka, Bill Keith, Bela Fleck, John McGann, and David Newsam. After 2 years in school, Kyle relocated to Nashville, TN. In 2012, he was selected to participate in the Savannah Music festival’s Acoustic Music Seminar- a scholarship-based mentoring program with acoustic greats such as Mike Marshal, Chris Thile, and Edgar Meyer.

Kyle is currently a full-time member of jam-grass unit, The Jeff Austin Band.
